Brooks on the Zipline

Well, Brooks now holds the record as the youngest person to do the zipline at Sharptop Cove. He is on the left and I (Mommy) am on the right. This was actually the second time he did it, but every time he hits the water he immediately says, "I wanna do it again!"

We celebrated Hatcher's 1st birthday at the Sharp Top pool with all of our assigned team and summer staff friends.

Well, it's been about 10 months since I've blogged, but I figured assignment at Sharp Top would be a good place to restart. We have been doing lots of fun things. Brooks and Hatcher got to "ride a bull" up at Pioneer Camp. Brooks loved it, Hatcher not so much.

Brooks' favorite activity is the Big Slide that goes into the lake. He would do it all day if we would let him.

Brooks also attempted the Blob, but it was too hot for him to make it to the end. We were proud of him for giving it a try. He really wants to try the big zip line. If he gives it a try we will post pictures.

To Brooks' delight, our good friend Zack showed up at our door the other night with his UGA football helmet on. Brooks immediately made a beeline for his helmet and put it on as well. The next 45 minutes consisted of lots of head butts and tackling. It was quite entertaining.

We went to Knoxville to visit my family last weekend. Friday night Uncle Funky and the Zero Cash Band had a gig at a local restaurant. Brooks got invited to join the band, and it was the cutest thing ever. He had the best time on stage with Granddad.

The Lord knows and delights in the joy of my sweet child's heart. We went shoe shopping for Brooks yesterday and he found some rain boots he had to have. They were on sale so his new green boots with bugs on them came home with us. Shortly after we got home Brooks went down for his nap. After he fell asleep it poured rain. When he woke up and saw that it rained he jumped with joy, ran straight for the bag the boots were still sitting in and begged to go jump in puddles. It made my heart smile to see his pure joy in the smallest thing.

As if new boots and rain puddles wasn't enough joy for one day, Daddy and Brooks made me a birthday cake. Brooks loves cake, clearly!

We took the boys to the braves game two weeks ago. I think Hatcher might have been the youngest fan there at 4 weeks old. It was obscenely hot, but Brooks had a blast!

We were blessed to get to go with a group of friends to Fripp Island for vacation. I was horrible about remembering to take pictures, but here are a few.

Justin caught a black drum while fishing in the ocean. It was delicious.

Brooks loved the beach and the ocean. He would play in the sand and waves for hours.

Justin went fishing with some friends. It was catch and release, but one of the fish he caught (a 7 pounder) died before he could release it. Bad for the fish but great for Brooks who was so excited to see such a big fish. This was his initial face.

Mother's Day Present

When Mommy was at work one day Daddy and Brooks made me the best Mother's Day present ever. Brooks painted this beautiful birdhouse for me. Of course he couldn't wait until Mother's Day to give it to me. As soon as he woke up from his nap he made Daddy get it so he could show it to me.

He also painted his butterfly house he made at Home Depot a few weeks ago.

My parents were in town the first Saturday of May and got to go do the project at Home Depot with Brooks. Here is Brooks all ready to go to work.

Mommy had to step in to save Granddad's fingers a few times, especially when Brooks would get distracted by the other kids working on their projects. He would keep swinging away full force with that hammer while looking all over the place.

We took Brooks to Athens for the first time for the G Day game. It was so much fun. He loved walking around downtown and North Campus. He was such a trooper and made it the whole day without his usual 3 hour nap. Of course, he fell asleep in the car on the way home around 5:30 and woke only briefly when we moved him to his bed:-)

The Easter Bunny came to visit Brooks this year :-) Along with the usual eggs with candy, he brought Brooks a baseball glove. Brooks was beside himself with excitement and carried it around all day. He even wanted to take it into church, but we talked him into leaving it in the car.

The Easter Bunny left a really big basket at Pop and Gigi's house for the boys. Once it was empty Brooks wanted to use it for the egg hunt in the front yard.

Brooks is getting really good at riding his bike. He can ride it all by himself except on a steep uphill. It seems like every day his legs are getting stronger, and he is able to ride longer and more uphill. Here is a video of him on his bike on the way to the playground in our neighborhood.

We had a beautiful and extremely fun Saturday. We started off the morning with pancakes as usual, and then headed to Home Depot to get some stuff to work in the yard. We were so excited when we got there to find that on the first Saturday of every month they do kid projects. Today, was building at butterfly house. Of course we didn't have our camera with us at Home Depot, so here are some pictures of Brooks with his butterfly house in his Home Depot project apron taken when we got home.

As we were working out in yard today we realized that Brooks is already starting to sweat profusely from his thick hair in the heat, so... we decided it was time to go ahead and give him his summer buzz cut. After much convincing and the promise of multiple "special treats" this is the finished product. My sweet little angel with his "halo"

Last night we went to the Sequoyah HS baseball game. Daddy saved a lady and her daughter from being hit by a foul ball, so the coach gave him the game ball to give to Brooks. Brooks was so excited! He insisted that it sit by his bed last night while he slept, and it was the first thing he talked about when he got up this morning. Come nap time today he was begging to get to sleep with it, so here he is all tucked in with his Monkey, Zebra, and baseball.

We went for our 20 week ultrasound today and found out we are having a boy! The first two pictures attest to that. Just think of him at sitting on a camera if you can't figure out what at what you are looking.

In this one his head is to the right and his belly is the big oval object on the left.

We weren't able to get the cute profile picture this go 'round because the little guy refused to turn over on his back :-)

Brooks has made the move to his big boy bed in his new big boy room. He is so proud of how big he is and all the neat new stuff in his new room. Here are a few pics of my little guy in his big bed. Once we finish with the final touches on the decorating I'll put up a few pics of the new room.

Though we tuck him in facing the right direction, he rarely stays that way.

We got about 3 inches of snow on Friday. Brooks loved "the no" (he doesn't pronounce his s's well). He especially loved having us make snow balls and hitting them with his golf clubs. He cried so hard when we had to come inside.

We got snow on Thursday night (and a fair amount of ice). We took Brooks out on Friday morning to play in the snow, braving the 17 degree/7 degree with windchill weather. Quite a cold spell for Georgia. Brooks had so much fun playing in the snow and sliding on the ice. We tried making snowballs but the snow wouldn't stick together :-( Brooks sobbed when we made him come inside even though his snot was frozen to his face!

Caleb is an excellent crawler, and quite a stocky little guy. Brooks, wanting to use these qualities to his advantage, decided that Caleb would make a great ride-on toy. Caleb was very tolerant of his cousin. Impressively, he was also able to hold Brooks on his back without a problem. :-)

Brooks got a big kick out of it when we turned the tables, but wasn't nearly as patient as Caleb.

Brooks turned one on Halloween. I can't believe he is such a big boy. It was a big day for Brooks. Mommy wasn't thinking and scheduled his doctor's checkup (which included shots), so he wasn't feeling his best come trick-or-treating time. He held up the best he could though.

We went a few weeks ago to Cagle's Dairy with the Reinhardts for some fall fun. There was a corn maze (Ryder got us through it successfully), tractors, and bouncy toys. Brooks was a great sport, but will probably enjoy it more in years to come.

It rained the other day, and Brooks was so sad because he couldn't go outside and play. He did have fun watching the rain though.

Brooks' new tunnel (a.k.a. Mommy's new dining room table) was delivered today. I was worried Brooks would be sad about the loss of his big open play area, but he quickly learned to play under, and around our new dining room table.

Brooks absolutely loves to get into the kitchen cabinets. His very favorite is the one full of tupperware. He is successful in taking pieces of it into every room of the house.

Here is a sneak peak of Brooks' Halloween/Birthday costume. More to come when the actual date arrives.

We went to the Autumn Festival of Holly Springs this weekend. Most of the activities were for big boys, but we did get some cute pics.

Brooks wasn't so sure about sitting up on the big tractor tire at first, but he was all grins after a few seconds.

After a few months away from each other, Brooks and the beach got the opportunity to renew their love affair. All of the Chandlers went to North Myrtle for a week of fun in the sun (and sand, and pool). Brooks crawled fearlessly into the waves, and tried not so successfully to walk on the shifting sand. There will be a few more post from this trip once I get Aunt Brittany's pictures to share.

Brooks loves to stare out the window, any window, at anything. In this case, he was watching the "big boys" ride their bikes around our cul-de-sac.

"Mommy please let me go out and play with them."
Brooks also loves to play under/in the end table. He uses it as a fort and a tunnel to escape when Mom blocks off the other exits from the family room.

We had some friends up for the first UGA game of the season. Everybody (five babies included) was all decked out in their red and black.

These days Brooks is doing a lot of solo walking. I think his longest distance clocked is currently about 20 feet. Before he ventured out on his own, Brooks did A LOT of assisted walking (just ask Mommy and Daddy's backs).

We were at Windy Gap (a Young Life camp) for a month this summer. These a a few pics from the Ramp Festival at camp. While we were there that month, Brooks learned to crawl and pull up. Clearly he was so proud of himself.

Brooks and I went to the beach with my family the week of the 4th of July. Sadly, Daddy had to stay at assignment at Windy Gap and couldn't come. All the men spent plenty of time playing with Brooks so that he wouldn't miss Daddy so much. Of course Aunt Ressy and Grandma also got in their fair share of Brooks time. It's just that the women were usually holding the cameras.
